From Co.design:Inter.action Design Research
Event Code Generator is a software tool that help designers without advanced programming skills create customized events that trigger state changes. The tool is a component software of Adobe Flash. Event Code Generator allows designers to easily and graphically define events with path gates. In Event Code Generator, an event is interpreted as a path which a pointer go through. The position of the pointer can be controlled by data from external sensors, such as camera or accelerator. It means that it is possible to create customized data pattern as an event. Once the user define and save an event, the software automatically create a symbol with action script source code that is hidden from the user. Therefore the user can simply call the event name for programming. Interactivity programming is simplified by the minimized text based programming.
Video showing basic concept of Event Code Generator (the videso was made with an old version.)
- Video showing the basic concept of Event Code Generator. A user can create a customized event using path gates, and automatically generate action script source code. The source code can be copied and pasted into a Flash movie. In the current version, copy-and-paste process is not necessary as the software is launced from the pannel menu and the automatically generated source code is saved as a symbol in the library of the flash movie.

Prototype Examples
- GESTURE BASED NUMBER INPUT
- This is a gesture-based number input prototype. This was developed by Juwhan Kim for the demo of an early version of Event Code Generator.
- GESTURE PLAYER
- Gesture Player is a gesture-based portable movie player.
This was implemented by Media Interaction Design course takers, idKAIST.
This prototype uses Adobe Flash application on a touch-screen laptop.
To recognize tis gestures, Event Code Generator 0.2 was used.
- GESTURE BASED VIDEO GAME
- Let the Girl of Red-Hat Go Home is a simple game with tangible controller.
This was implemented by Media Interaction Design course takers, idKAIST. It is inspired by fairtales : Little Red Hat and Blue Bird. There are the girl of red-hat, a bluebird, a wolf, and a zigzag road on the screen. On-screen bluebird follows a physical bluebird doll and the girl of red-hat follows on-screen bluebird slowly. The game objective is to guide her to the house safely. Event Code Generator was used to check breakaway.
